| Charles D. Johnson, Ph. D. Director, Public Policy Research Institute ccs@ppri.tamu.edu Education: B.S. Michigan State University, MA and Ph.D. University of Illinois, Psychology Areas of Interest: Dr. Charles Johnson is the Director
of the Public Policy Research Institute and the founding Director of the
Center for Community Support (CCS). His academic career has focused on
the solution of societal problems through scientific research. Based on
his long-term involvement with both community based organizations and
grant funding, Dr. Johnson sought to address the need for assisting communities
in securing grant funds. Widely recognized as a researcher and scholar
he has received numerous awards for excellence in research and service,
and has testified before both state and federal legislatures. While on
the faculty at Michigan State University his work was honored with a Senate
Concurrent Resolution by the Michigan Senate and House of Representatives.
More recently, he was the inaugural recipient of the Regents Professor
Award at Texas A&M University. |

Krinhop Senior Community Development Specialist Kkrinhop@ppri.tamu.edu Education: MA (Anthropology) Areas of interest: Socio-cultural themes in work and the workplace, Public Health, Fire and Emergency Services, Organizational structure and relations, Community and Economic Development, Rural Texas Background: Mr. Krinhop has a background in anthropological fieldwork, ethnographic research and data analysis. He works at the TEES Center for Community Support. Areas of expertise include qualitative and quantitative data analysis, grant writing for community-based organizations (CBOs) and advising community project leaders on competitive funding agency matters. Experience includes collecting research data through site visits, interview strategies and web-based information resources. Mr. Krinhop has participated in projects involving fire departments and emergency services, outreach efforts for children's health insurance programs, juvenile delinquency, rural health care, museums/libraries and technology integration in education. |

Garcia Opersteny Senior Community Development Specialis MGarcia@ppri.tamu.edu Education: BS (Sociology) Areas of interest:youth development, delinquency prevention, education, community development, minority issues, and faith-based initiatives. Background: An addition to the staff of the Center for Community Support in 2000, Ms. Garcia-Opersteny previously worked and volunteered for various non-profit organizations for over 15 years. Most recently she worked with Boys & Girls Clubs, both locally and nationally, in youth program development and implementation to organizational administration. She has served as an adult probation officer, alcohol & drug abuse counselor, and rape crisis center volunteer coordinator. She has been appointed to various committees by city and school officials to represent both youth and minority interests. |
| Charis Keenum Community Development Specialist CRutherford@ppri.tamu.edu Education: LMSW
(Social Work Administration/Supervision) Background: Mrs. Rutherford has an educational background in social work focusing on non-profit administration and supervision and specializing in grant writing and organizational skills. A recent addition to the staff of the TEES Center for Community Support, Mrs. Rutherford has worked and volunteered for social services organizations for 10 years. Her experience includes working with such vulnerable populations as individuals with mental illness, mental retardation and the elderly. She is also currently a steering committee member of the National Association of Social Workers Brazos Valley Unit and volunteers for the Texas Volunteer Conference. |
